چکیده

This paper addresses the problem of automatic numeric recognition and understanding in spoken language dialogue. We show that accurate numeric understanding in ̄uent unconstrained speech demands maintaining robustness at several di€erent levels of system design, including acoustic, language, understanding and dialogue. We describe a robust system for numeric recognition and present algorithms for feature extraction, acoustic and language modeling, discriminative training, utterance veri®cation and numeric understanding and validation. Experimental results from a ®eld-trial of a spoken dialogue system are presented that include customers' responses to credit card and telephone number requests. Ó 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. Studies on Robust Language and Dialogue Processing for Spoken Dialogue Systems

In spoken dialogue systems, robust language processing for spontaneous speech understanding and robust dialogue processing for achieving user goal are inevitable. Previously, research of speech recognition and research of natural language understanding were done independently. At first glance, it seems to be no problem to combine these two technologies, because the purpose of speech recognition...

Improving the speech recognition performance of beginners in spoken conversational interaction for language learning

The provision of automatic systems that can provide conversational practice for beginners would make a valuable addition to existing aids for foreign language teaching. To achieve this goal, the SCILL (Spoken Conversational Interaction for Language Learning) project is developing a spoken dialogue system that is capable of maintaining interactive dialogues with non-native students in the target...

Swedish Dialogue Systems a Proposal to the Swedish Language Technology Program (nutek/hsfr)

1 The vision The standard way to interact with a conventional computer is to use a keyboard for input to the computer and a screen for input to the user. Increasingly, however, the need is being felt for interaction using other modes. Currently, the interaction between the user and the machine in these systems is very primitive from a dialogue perspective. The user is asked to enter numeric cod...

Dialogue Strategies for Improving the Usability of Telephone Human-Machine Communication

Interactions with spoken language systems may present breakdowns that are due to errors in the acoustic decoding of user utterances. Some of these errors have important consequences in reducing the naturalness of human-machine dialogues. In this paper we identify some typologies of recognition errors that cannot be recovered during the syntactico-semantic analysis, but that may be effectively a...

Towards End-to-End Spoken Dialogue Systems with Turn Embeddings

Training task-oriented dialogue systems requires significant amount of manual effort and integration of many independently built components; moreover, the pipeline is prone to errorpropagation. End-to-end training has been proposed to overcome these problems by training the whole system over the utterances of both dialogue parties. In this paper we present an end-to-end spoken dialogue system a...
